beach volleyball rules? why did the final match in the olympic men's volleyball game stop at 15-4? they didnt go all the way to 21?
A question about two official beach volleyball rules? Would anyone chew up these lines in simplest possible English: Attack-Hit Faults: 17.2.3 A player completes an attack-hit using an open-handed tip or dink" directing the ball with the fingers. 17.2.5 A player completes an attack-hit using an overhand pass, which has a trajectory not perpendicular to the line of the shoulders, except when setting his or her teammate. What is an "open-handed tip or dink"? Can the third attack-hit to the opponent be directed with the overhand "pass"? Is the second attack-hit "overhand pass" being directed to the opponent a fault? What is a trajectory not perpendicular to the line of the shoulders?
outdoor (beach/sand) volleyball rules? WILL CHOSE BEST ANSWER? i usually play indoor volleyball. what are the main different rules in outdoor volleyball then indoor volleyball. i will be playing in a doubles tournament at regionals. its my first sand volleyball tourney. PLEASE HELP ME! i need to no the rules!!! any tips? thanks!!! will chose best answer!
I have a question about volleyball vs beach volleyball? So, I've been watching on the olympics a little bit some volleyball and beach volleyball games. I understand the very basic rules of volleyball. I know beach volleyball is played on the sand. What, if any, are the differences in how's it played? Are the rules different? If so, what/how are the rules different? Thanks.
Volleyball rules question...outdoor/sand? If the ball hits the line (in beach volleyball) is it in? What if the line is not straight because it got moved during play? Meaning the ball hits the line but when the line is straightened after the ralley, the ball mark is completly out side the line, is the ball out, or do you still call it in, because it hit the line even thought the line was not where is should have been? Also where do you find the answer to this? I looked in the FIVB and the USA Rules and it is not clear.
Is there a rule change in overhand setting for Beach Volleyball as per FIVB Rulebook? This is when the overhand setting is not used as attack hit. Somebody explained that shoulder squaring or positioning need not apply and that the ball may rebound to any position as opposed to the ball travelling perpendicular forward or back. What is critical is whether overhand setting is held or doubled. Pls also expound on technicality of finger motion when setting. Thanx.
WHY is it illegal to set a serve in beach volleyball? First off, I have read the USAV (outdoor section 13.4) rules on first hits of a team, and how they can’t involve overhand “finger action”. What I want to know is – WHY? What is it that this rule is in place to prevent? What scenario was happening in games that necessitated the USAV putting this rule into effect, when it is not a rule in indoor play? Everyone I know follows this rule, but no one seems to know why the rule exists.
Beach Volleyball help? I need to know the purpose, equipment, rules, safety tips, and interesting facts about beach volleyball. Please help! Luv, Papillon pup
can you "set" a service return in beach volleyball? playing beach volleyball last weekend someone was trying to convince me that a rule change now allows someone playing a serve in beach volleyball to play the ball with their hands apart as if they are setting the ball, so long as they are square to the net. maybe in indoor, but i think this is still an illegal contact in beach vball. you can "set' the ball over the net so long as your shoulders are square to the net but not on the serve. can someone please clear this up for me. thanks!
How can I switch to beach volleyball after playing years of indoor?.? Well I have been playing volleyball almost my entire life. I love it more than anything and don't mind that it takes up all of my time. I'm planning on playing college volleyball as well. But my problem is even though I love playing on an indoor court, beach volleyball is truly my passion. I love the ocean and being at the beach, and when I go I just play beach volleyball, and Im not as good because it is a lot more difficult :P and even though I am not as good at it I love playing it sooo much more. I feel more accomplished and have a lot more fun. I live in Atlanta, Georgia...so no beaches around here. I am trying out for high performance beach in may and need to find out how to prepare myself for it. Once my season ends Im going to try and get some of my friends on the local sand courts, but none of us knows the real rules and regulations. What do you suggest I do? And who can help me learn the basics; etc.?
Why was the Belgian Women's Beach Volleyball team so fat? I watched Misty May and Kerri Walsh play the Belgians in beach volleyball last night and I gotta say, those two belgian chicks were HUGE! The announcers listed one of them at 6"4' and 195lbs! It should be against the rules for a chick that huge to wear a two piece bikini, don't you agree? I've also noticed that a lot of the Canadian athletes also look pretty sloppy and out of shape, perhaps that's why they haven't won a single freakin' medal yet. |▒▒Kebert Xela▒▒| i've read enough of your racist rants on here to know not to take anything you say seriously. spew your hatred elsewhere.
Why the hell are net serves allowed in beach volleyball? What MORON made THAT rule? If anything, you should LOSE the point if you make a net serve, not squirrel into a free point. This is an idiotic rule and whoever is responsible for it should not have rule-making authority because they are morons. The USA is losing points on unreturnable serves because of it, in a Gold medal match. Can you imagine losing the final point of the final set of a medal match over that? It's a squirly serve, a squirly rule, and should be changed. It's this type of insanity, like the judging in gymnastics, that causes people to turn off the TV and say 'screw it' when the home team loses. That's no way to grow a sport. Maybe one day these morons will wake up and use some common sense.
Where can I go camping on Galveston beach? Me and my friends are trying to go camping on the beach in galveston this weekend but I don't know where to go. I don't know if its allowed or not allowed. I know we've spent the night on Crystal beach a couple of times in the car but are there any rules on camping on the beach. We were going to pitch tents and have a camp fire and everything...... Also does anyone know of any fun things to do when camping on the beach? Football Volleyball etc.....
Where can I learn volleyball beyond 101? I've played beach volleyball for two weeks for 2 hours a day and know the rules and the basics. Where can I get learning material beyond the 101 rules? With google I usually just find the basic rules. I need to improve my technique regarding bumping (more accuracy), setting up (need some more power) and spiking (currently I just hit the bump the ball with my heel of my hand)
volleyball serve rule.? hi. Question regarding rule on tossing the ball. From what i have read: Beach volleyball, (2 vs 2), the ball is not allowed to be spun on the toss. indoor volleyball: no mention of spinning the ball on toss. therefore legal. Am i allowed to spin the ball on the toss playing outdoors grass\sand, if there are 6 players to a side like indoor volleyball? if anyone knows can they provide an up todate source, so i can argue strongly if questioned about the legality of this. ok thanks guys! I'm occasionally questioned about the legality of it, especially when i win 5 points in a row with it, people get a bit bitter :-p
About Volleyball . . . some help please!? My new b/f is a volleyball enthusiast -- but I know nothing about the indoor game. He is taking me to a tournament and I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion on a good website that I could learn some basics from. Like rules, scoring, etc. I've played and watched beach volleyball, but I understand that this is different. Help!
I have been watching the Olympics? I notice that all the workers in the the back round are always standing with their hands behind their backs at the beach volleyball games and other games. I was wondering are they instructed to stand this way or do they choose to ? I know china is know to have stupid rules for people.
So I'm a n00b at sports lol...help? I played volleyball last fall for he first time ever!!! I never even played volleyball with an actual volleyball before and I didn't know any of the rules!! (I had played beach volleyball before though..lol). I wasn't the worst player but I wasn't the best..I guess you could say I ws average?? About half the players had already been playing for at least a year so take that into consideration. What sports should I play next year?? I was going to start practicing for sports and I have 4 months to get ready! I'm anemic so once I get iron supplements I'll be able to be active again! I'm going to be a freshman next year. These are the sports offered that I would consider doing: Fall -volleyball -cross country -soccer winter -cheerleading -indoor track spring -softball -track -tennis Keep in mind that I've acctually played any of these with the exception of a few that we did for fun!! Which ones should I do based on what you know? I'll be playing on jv btw..thxx!

OMG embarrasing. NKAED!?!? I went to an uncrowded beach today with some friends of mine and we set up a net and played volleyball. Some guys around our age (both 15) challenged us to a game of strip beach volleyball at a secluded part of the beach. We thought we were pretty good and thought we could win so we agreed. What happened? WE LOST!!! there was nothing we could do we were so embarassed we didnt think we'd lose. We were forced to take of our bikinis and show it all! We had to play the second game naked. The rules for it, however, were that if they lost, we get our suits back and they have to take it off. If they won, we'd all have to shower naked in front of them and buy them all colas. They lost, so it turned out okay in the end. Have you ever played strip something or other? did you win or lose?

What do you think is wrong with my ankle? About 6 weeks ago, I hurt my ankle (in Jamaica playing beach volleyball, they raked sand over a huge boulder and my ankle rolled in while playing). As it rolled in, I heard a series of popping noises (almost like if you were to twist and pop bubble wrap). I fell to the ground and could not move, felt sick from pain and almost passed out. Couldnt walk, and spent the rest of my vacation in a wheel chair. Came back to the states, and went to the ER. They said I had compartment syndrome (when a body part is super swollen it cuts of circulation, and result is muscle death and nerve damage). I was feeling pins and needles a lot at that point. I couldnt move toes (still cant) or the foot (still cant). They did xrays, nothing showed broken. They did an Ultrasound to check for blod clots due to the swelling....found nothing. Did a doppler reading, to check pulse in foot. They had a hard time finding it, but found it, and ruled out compartment syndrome. They put me in a cast and sent me on my way. at my 2 week recheck my dr took my cast off, and gave me a walking boot, said try walking...i tried, but couldnt, too much pain, so i gave up. at next recheck he looked at foot and didnt like that it was still blue, swollen, and unable to move or bear any weight (after a month). he issued a MRI for further testing (I dont get results til wed...at next recheck, but am impatient). After 6 weeks, i still cant walk, bear any weight, i cant move my toes or foot, my ankle foot and toes are still swollen, and my entire foot and most of my lower leg are a pale blue/purple color. I tried to walk the other day to see if I could, but couldnt, and immediately my entire leg from the knee down went ice cold. like i was dead. but the rest of my leg (knee up was fine) and so was my other leg). if i try to bear any weight on the foot, in the heel i feel pins and needles then a sharp pain going upwards. what is going on with my foot? any ideas? why is it all blue, why do i have pins and needles and why is it not heeling at all? oh yea...also....when im at rest, my foot/ankle does this involuntary muscle spasm foot shake thing. like the nerves are out of whack. sometimes its a subtle tremor shake, that last for a couple minutes and wont stop....other times itll be just one big jolt or thrash...the big jolt always results in pain, it wakes me up at night. as i lay there sobbing in pain.
Where on the internet can I watch the olympics? I know NBC has them, but they have a strict rule that Canadians can't see them (I'm Canadian). I TRIED CBC BUT THEY ONLY HAVE HIGHLIGHTS. Where could I watch them. OR, if they have recaps or replays (whatever you want to call them), what time would they be. I live in the eastern time zone and I want to see this specific match, doesn't have to be live. Women's Gold Medal Match - Match 54 (beach volleyball) Tian Jia/Wang (China) vs Walsh/May-Treanor (United States)

I play volleyball with my friends at the beach & park, but its not "following the rules, or to the rules" I'd really like to try out for the JV team but im not sure if i would waste my time because, i dont "officially" dont know how to play. I'd really love to learn how to play officially, and i have so much energy and im not a quitter. What can I do? Do i just tell the coach up front?

How funny would it be if we had a round of NRL where we used another object instead of a footy? i remember we used to muck around at training 2-3 times a year and train sets of 6 in attack and defense with a soccer ball for fun, obviously i'm not suggesting it and would never be approved and i hate soccer, but could you imagine it, still full NRL rules and all that, just with a different ball, which one would be funniest do you reckon? soccer ball or tennis ball, basketball, golf ball, bouncy ball, volleyball, Gridiron ball, ping pong ball, or a big beach ball, base ball, any other suggestions, maybe an orange or apple haha, and when they break just run another out lol, my god that would be funny haha
Move back to NJ for love or stay in CA? Short Version: CA = loft 3 blocks from beach, **away from crazy alcoholic family, part time modeling career (I'm pre-law, just good money)..... **empty without love of my life, not in a needy way just i want to see him smile in love way. NJ = could get my own apartment there, **crazy alcoholic family, could sign some modeling contracts too, with love of my life i could hug him everyday & kiss him goodnight note: my top law school choices are both in CA & NYC so thats an even draw ....been in CA one month & a half, decide in the next two days to keep a year lease or shorten it or end it.. after 2 days the 1yr lease sticks. Long Version (for those who really want to help me in the greatest choice I'll ever have to make...) The youngest of my VERY unhealthy family, I've been "the mom" since I was 14. Did everything I could- got them school, rehab, jobs, etc. I kept a social life, good grades, all-star volleyball, college, etc. Had an amazing boyfriend for 5 years. All I've ever wanted & more. Above all, I truly love him in every way possible. He's my best friend. However, I couldn't get sucked into my family cycle anymore. I can't help those who don't want my help. I moved to CA & broke up with the love of my life before I left. I didn't want to put us through a long distance relationship. My feeling is that if two people don't just love each other but are in love that nothing will stand in the way.. & I had to move to save myself. We're on great terms. We did make rules though, we don't act totally the same obviously. I got a 1,000+sqft loft three blocks away from the beach, hardwood floors, granite, french doors to the balcony- the whole nine. I pulled myself out of the ghetto after all my years of wishing. I'm naturally blonde, blue-eyed, & size zero. Shallow wealthy guys easily fall for me, not my thing. Intelligent, funny, caring, good-looking men ask me out... Even when I hang out with them. I feel nothing. I see all guys as friends, I can't feel anything for anyone but the one I left behind. I'm in NJ visiting, my family is nuts. NUTS. I went out for an hr with him, just to catch-up. We got ice cream, sat down & talked. Without any of my complicated career, family, etc problems being solved.. the knots in my stomach disappear & I just feel like everything makes sense. I know that sounds dumb, but it's true. SO NOW WHAT DO I DO?! I'd love some life experience on this one, but anyyy advice will do. 2 days to make the choice... stay in CA, move to NJ... (He's finishing school on the East & can't move out there if anyone was wondering) head says CA, heart says NJ... what will I regret doing or not doing more? Someone please help =( Thanks so much! Sorry I went into so much detail lol I really wanted someone to get my situation..
What chance is there of me getting a boyfriend? Do you think, judging on my personality and looks, that I can get a boyfriend when I graduate high school? Am I attractive or not? I'd like to know what some other people think cause there is this guy I like, but he's older than me. I'd like to possibly date him when I graduate next year and I'd like to know if anyone can give me some tips. Btw He thinks I'm cute, but I'd like other opinions to know if he was just being sweet. Personality: I'm kinda a tomboy. I like playing basketball and volleyball. I like watching football and playing video games sometimes, but I also like going to the beach, swimming, hanging with friends and trying to help my friends out if they are having problems. I'm a pretty good listener. I like to cheer people up whenever I can. I can be goofy and random sometimes, but that usually makes people smile, which I think is a good thing most of the time. :) Here's my pic: http://s574.photobucket.com/albums/ss184/SportsGirl4God23/?action=view¤t=me2.jpg Do you think I can get a boyfriend? Is there anything I should work on? Btw this pic is from last year, I've thinned out a lot since then. Please let me know. Also I'm trying to keep this question within the rules of Yahoo Answers. I'd like an answer to my questions. Also please no rude answers. Thank you! :D and yes I have low self confidence, I'm trying to build up my confidence by taking what I learn here and using it to put up barriers and gain some strength also I have asked similar questions before, but they violated some rules by accident (not making chat) and were deleted. I'm hoping this question was worded the way I actually wanted it to be so that it won't get removed.
Is it wrong to pay for sex if you are severely depressed deprived and suicidal? I would prefer an answer from men only because I don't think women can relate to this question as well. I'm 32 and have not had sex in 14 years. I'm a 5'11, white male, fit, attractive, athletic, financially successful, responsible, well dressed, clean, and have had my career and priorities together for 14 long years waiting for that one special person. However I'm painfully shy and simply cannot talk to women under any circumstances. I simply cannot. When there is a pretty girl in the elevator with me or in public and I want to talk to her I'm instantly struck with feelings of high anxiety which leaves me frozen and unable to speak. I live alone, and I'm totally and completely alone in this world with no friends and limited family. My social life is totally non-existent. I do NOT enjoy bars or clubs which most women always insist on attending and parading themselves at. I hate clubs and bars so much I simply refuse to go. Everywhere else I go - I go alone. Sure, I talk to people but I don't make any lasting friends and more importantly I don't meet any females or get any numbers. Online dating has been a complete disaster and waste of time and money. Out of 50 emails sent only 1 is returned. And the women expect only the best guys (even though real life might be different it seems when they get online they suddenly demand the best) and I can never keep the conversation going so they stop emailing with me. I promise everyone reading this letter am a good looking clean well dressed guy in all respects. Yet it feels like most women are simply rejecting me. Even though I *know* that's not true (or what I try to tell myself) it's what it feels like because I believe if women were interested in me - they would talk to me. And they don't. Guys I know who are the diametric opposite of me who are very irresponsible, clowns, players, not gainfully employed, in a band, tattoos or whatever: they don't even have to try. They just sit back and the women come to them; or as one guy I talked to put it "I don't have to do anything they fall in my lap". Now what kind of girls am I talking about here? Basically the kinds of girls that 90% of the male population would prefer if given the choice. And who are these girls? They are young attractive 18-22 year old girls. And these images are constantly thrust in my face as a reminder of what I can't have. On television, in magazines, and in real life. I just got back from the Nivea Volleyball Expo in Long Beach approximately 20 minutes ago. That is what prompted this letter. 18-22 year old girls with perfect bodies, perfect faces, and perfect smiles in bikini's at the booths dancing and shaking thier perfect teenage bodies for all to see. These are 18-22 year old girls who I can never have. And even if I wasn't painfully shy: they are now of my age range. 14 years have now gone by. How many more years should I wait? I'm wondering if my situation has now become the dire exception to the rule, and justifies paying an 18-22 yr old perfect escort for a "girlfriend experience" as well as talking to me beforehand and "coaching me" through this situation. I was thinking I could explain to her that I have not had sex in 14 years and she would understand and help me out before having any kind of sex. Let's face it: sex from a female gives a man confidence. He gets a huge boost in his personal life, his sense of well being, and in his career. And of course I'm thinking this might give me a boost of confidence and diminish my shyness which could help me overcome this situation well after she collects her money and leaves. I need to know what you think of this. Is it right? Is it wrong? Am I justified in seeking this route. And if so - why is it right or wrong. I am a good person and I do have a conscience. And if you are someone who thinks my situation is acceptable and/or has had an escort before please tell me about your experience, how it was, and how I should best go about taking care of this. I understand allot of escorts go to college and I live close to CSU Long Beach but whats more important (after I determine if I'm going to move forward) is finding the right one. I need to know where I should go and look for someone who is compatible with my situation. Specifically someone young and has never done this or only done this a few times to pay some college bills etc.Money is no object. This situation is causing severe depression, severe feelings of deprivation, worthlessness and now suicide. 14 years is a long time. Any man could hardly imagine such a painful punishment and when you add being alone all the time it's truly is a consequential combination. I prefer responses from men and I don't want any lectures or negative comments from women about this, please. If you have something constructive to say please do o I spill my guts and these are the kind of answers I get? And I only get 5? I was expecting at least 10 x that many.
do you like my story so far? “YYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS MOTHER, NOW GO!” Bailey yelled to her mom in the parking lot of Palm Coast High School, looking around to be sure no one could hear this stupid conversation that for some reason has not ended yet. “But honey are you sure your fine” Bailey’s over-protective mom asked her yet again. Bailey just ignored her mom and walked in the auditorium where cheerleading tryouts for her freshman year were being held. The fate of her friendships in high school depended on the moment she entered that gym. She held her breath and walked up the sidewalk leading to the double doors. You see Bailey wasn’t exactly popular in middle school, she was but then one huge event ruined her rise to popularity and the rest of her eighth grade year. She was determined to start fresh and finally obtain her number one goal, to be “that girl” the one everyone was jealous of, who everyone secretly hated but loved her anyways. She has studied books and magazines the entire summer preparing for that one solitary moment when the new and improved Bailey would walk into that auditorium and wow everyone in there, making her popularity reign begin. Eighth grade had began wonderfully, she was the ‘it girl’ and she was absolutely loving it. She had 2 best friends, Kylie and Bridget. But Kylie, being her second in command, knew everything about Bailey things that could potentially ruin Bailey’s life and eventually they did. Bailey told Kylie all her deepest darkest secrets, even the disgusting things and eventually Kylie got sick of being second in command and told the entire eighth grade everything about Bailey. Bailey was then left completely friendless the rest of eighth grade, not even the losers would hang out with her. The worst part was everyone who was anyone was attending South Vista High School and so was Bailey. Luckily her father, Nate Owens CEO of many companies across the globe, obtained a new company in California and prompted the entire Owens family to move there at the end of Bailey’s eighth grade year. Now she was starting anew. The family, consisting of Mr. Owens, Mrs. Owens, Bailey’s older brother Michael, and Bailey, Moved to Malibu, California into a huge house right on the beach. The entire family walked into this big, white, Tuscan themed house ecstatic. “This. Is. Awesome.” Bailey screamed, as she walked into her gigantic new room overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Her brand new bedroom was ocean blue and themed to feel as if she was living in a coral reef or something. Her things were already delivered and set up and she walked out on her patio and breathed in the sweet ocean air, finally able to live again. That’s when she hatched a plan, to completely rule her new school. She ran inside, like a child in a candy shop, straight to her closet. She pulled all her clothes out and began to sort through the things that we salvageable and ‘baby clothes’. She only had 5 shirts and 6 pairs of pants in the ‘keep pile’, and well the ‘get rid of pile’ was pretty full. She had soon concluded that she needed to make a friend in her neighborhood and go shopping. She put on her pink polka dot swim suit and headed down to the beach. At the beach she saw many beautiful blonde girls, she thought of herself as boring now as she looked at her light brown hair, then their blonde heads. That would have to be added to her make-over list. She saw girls her age playing volleyball and smiled at this opportunity. “Hey, can I join?” She asked flashing her pearly whites. “’course!” a blonde girl replied, momentarily stopping the action of this game to introduce Bailey to her and her friends. “I’m Kelly” She smiled a warm smile and looked to her friends and continued, “this is Nicole” pointing to yet another blonde. “And this is Rachael and Renee, they’re twins” All four of the girls smiled at her. The twins were particularly gorgeous. Rachael had short strawberry blonde hair while Renee had long bleached blond hair. “I’m Bailey, I just moved here” And with that the new friends got on with the game. Soon after Bailey invited the girls to the mall to shop, and get opinions on what Cali girls wear. Kelly informed Bailey that the mall was just down the road so we could take Nicole’s golf cart. At the mall the 4 girls showed bailey exactly what to wear and bailey left the mall with a brand new wardrobe. Later after eating at this cute little salad store at the mall with her brand new California friends Bailey went home to unload her new things. She walked thought the door with all her new bags. “What are those?” Her mother asked. Money wasn’t an issue obviously, since Nate Owens was a big CEO and all, but her mother wanted to be Bailey’s friend and Bailey just wasn’t having that. “Clothes, I figured I need new stuff since we just moved from New York City to Cali-forn-I-A” Bailey replied sounding quite annoyed. “Can I see?” her mom asked sweetly. “No” Bailey snapped back while trotting up the staircase to It seemed like everything was new these days, new place, new room, new friends, and new clothes. After unloading countless shirts, pants and a few new swim suits Bailey walked over to her Macbook air and got online. She logged onto facebook and looked over her old friends profiles. Kylie posted new pictures from some party Bailey wouldn’t have been invited to because of her loser status. Bailey frowned then went to the delete profile tab and clicked and then poof! Her old life had disappeared, at least for now. She opened a little notebook she bought at the mall and hatched her master plan How to be popular: 1.New Blonde hair! I mean brown is like poop! 2.My new clothes need to be prefect 3.Observe how my new friends act, copy them 4.What to do and how to do it. She smiled at the list she had made and decided she’s beginning tomorrow, starting with hair. The next morning she woke up bright and early and walked to the mall all alone with a big sweatshirt on, in case she s in case she saw anyone that she knew she needed to impress! As Bailey walked into the mall she saw so many hot guys through her big sunglasses and she thought to herself ‘yes!’ She walked into a drugstore and grabbed 3 bleaching kits and then she wandered over to the makeup. She thought about learning how to put it on and she pulled out her mini journal and added it to the list. Bailey wasn’t looking but she continued walking and BAM! She ran straight into someone who seemed pretty huge, and her notebook as well as her hair things and makeup went flying everywhere.
OMG embarrasing. NAKED!?!? Have you ever played strip something or other? did you win or lose?
this my health and physical education oral aye tell me what you think? Hello Mr G and class mates. This oral presentation will explain to you how “women in sport gain sufficient recognition by the media in the 21st century than in previous decades” and how this can still be improved. The relationship between sport and the media has become so close that without the media the sporting world would collapse. The main income for sport comes from the media, as the media attracts big money through sponsorship and advertisements. The money from this helps clubs to be able to buy and import better players to make the game allot more interesting, the clubs can also use this money to upgrade, build and repair stadiums along with giving the players salaries. Without promotion of sport through the media there would be no new young talent coming through and the sport would become boring and people would loose interest in it. Media has a large impact on games and often games will often be revolved around add breaks. Ever since sport has been broadcast on television games have been changed to attract a wider audience, like one day cricket for example was formed in 1977 because of the media influence to attract a wider audience. A quote from the editor of, the economist (20 July 1996) “The lure of money is already altering sport and will change it more. Increasingly games will be reorganised to turn them into better television.”(p 367). The Medias involvement in sport is constantly becoming more important. Sports relationship with the media started out small but become much closer with advancement in technology. Ever since the media has become involved in sport it has rapidly become a very profitable business. Sport was first introduced into the media in 1956 but had a minimal affect due to lack of communication tools and technology. Then in the 1970’s with the development of technology sport had another go with the world cricket series being televised for the first time to a television audience of 1 million people, from then on the relationship between sport and the media blossomed and were then inextricably linked. Quote Jacques Marchand (1994) “At the start, the marriage of sport and the media was a love match. It later became a marriage of convenience and today, with the advent of [global] television, it has become, in addition, a marriage based on money.” (p 367) Since the beginning of sport it has been male dominated and it is only really in the past couple of years women have started to gain some recognition. The messages the media send about women and women’s sport have a large influence on how female athletes and sports are accepted in society. Women have come a long way in sports from only being able to view sporting events if they were unmarried virgins or prostitutes to now being able to participate and compete in almost every kind of sport, but they still get almost no recognition whatsoever. Women often have to pose either nude or in bikinis due to lack of coverage and promotion. For example in 2000 to gain media publicity, the Australian soccer team had to pose nude in a calendar shoot. In the courier mail on the 12 of November 2008 there were only three news articles on women’s sport out of the thirty eight sport articles there. One of the articles was about tennis player Daniela Hantuchova here is the article I have highlighted the parts I believe that women in sport constantly have to endure (pass it around the room) look at the bottom of that one it says. “Hantuchova has sustained her carrier well after many years in which a battle to keep weight on her thin 181cm frame was closely monitored by the international media.” That is an example of the media controlling how sporting women look. The last time a female was on the front page of a news paper or featured on the news was during the Olympics, but still it was images of the girls wearing their tight swim suits or other tight clothes and only featured the attractive girls, yet another example of sexism. The other articles are about the Firebirds net ball team and it mainly spoke about re-signing Tasmin greenway the “English stunner” the article was alright but focused on her looks, And the other article was about the sports stars of the year with a tiny space in the bottom of the page and a photo of Stephanie Rice even though the actual article mentioned her once and was mainly about men. The media have so much control they can do almost anything they like, for example with the women’s beach volleyball they have changed the design of outfits to tiny bikinis, and use many different camera angles to let guys have a “perve” when the girls go to serve, there is a nice close up of their bums. Female beach volleyball has a predominately male auidence due to the media changing the rules to attract a male auidence. Women need to get more recognition for what they have done for the sporting world, often they are the higher achievers then the males. Take the Olympics for example, the majority of the medals cam
