Couch surfing????? Hi all - Just wondering - is anyone familiar with the concept of couch surfing (see website link below)? What are your experiences with this (more so as a traveler than as a host ...)? Thank you. http://www.couchsurfing.com/
Has anyone ever had a bad couch surfing experience? I'm planning on going to Paris in August with a friend. We're both from Canada and are 23 and 24. I know about all the great benefits of couch surfing. Has anyone ever had a bad experience? How did you solve it?
couch surfing? Is it safe? Is it free? Is it amazing? A friend and I are looking for a way to save a few bucks on our trip to europe. We want to see if this is a free experience, because if it is, we would love to stay in Europe a while longer. Is this a good way to meet locals? Do hosts ever try to steal from the person they are hosting? This is a new idea for me, so please give me all the information you can! Thanks!
What do you know about Couch Surfing? Couch Surfing is when people who do nothing but travel (or live a nomadic life) go to random houses and stay while traveling. It is intended for you to save money. That way, you do not have to rent a hotel or go camping. If you are a couch surfer, then you in turn have to be willing to allow other couch surfers to stay at your place without discrimination. My roommate from college does this. He and his wife signed up for it on the net. Its like a secret society. I think it sounds crazy. What do you all think about it? Having random people request to stay the night at your place. Strangers bringing bugs like roaches and bedbugs into your home. You do not know what kind of personality or insane habits the person that is staying the night at you house has. You do not know if you are going to be staying at a crazy persons house, or if that crazy person is going to be staying the night at yours. Am I the only person that thinks this is nuts?
How safe is 'Couch Surfing' even when its checked out first? I've looked it up on the internet, very interesting, but I'm a little worried. Anyone have any bad experiences doing this? My daughter and her friend, both 24 and pretty, will do this for 1 month in UK. They aren't worried. Okay, 'pretty' shouldn't matter, but I'm still worried a bit. I've looked it up on that website, I want to hear from someone that has personally done this.
Do you know much about Couch Surfing? If so, have you had a good experience with it? Do you recommend going with a friend? Can you stay with them for a longer time or is it usually just a couple nights that you stay? Any other info that you think would be helpful, please tell me.
Has anyone done couchsurfing couch surfing around europe? Hi everyone my boyfriend and I will be in Europe for 2 months this summer & after 4years of college and too many trips we think we would love to save some $$ couch surfing in Europe. Does anyone have any experiences? we will be using www.couchsurfers.com if we get good feedback from people who have done it.
What do you think of couch surfing? I've just recently heard of thousands of people doing this and there's even a website for it (couchsurfing.com). I know that things are extremely unsafe these days, but what do YOU think of it? I mean, for a young person who really wants to see the world, but doesn't have any money, this is a great idea. I don't know, just tell me your opinion.
has anyone ever tried couch surfing? from the website http://www.couchsurfing.com/ cause im thinking of trying to cycle round the uk using couch surfing every 50 miles or so if i can find a good route, but im not sure if its a good idea!
Has anyone experienced couch surfing? Hi, I'm thinking this could be a fun thing to do for the first couple of days on our trip to the US, but I would hate to run into any probs and it put a damper on the rest of our month away. We are a couple so it seems a pretty safe and fun option, plus cheap! What sort of things do you look out for, good and bad when contacting these people? do you have to be a member and offer your own couch to be able to contact others? Any advice from people who've surfer or host their couch?
Couch surfing etiquette? gday I plan to travel around Europe in the next month and i wanted to know the general etiquette is for couch surfing. 1. How long on average do you couch surf? 1 night, 1 week etc. what is the general amount you should ask for without sounding rude or overbearing? 2. How much notice do you generally give hosts? do you tell them 2 weeks in advance, 1 month in advance etc. Cheers JD.
What is couch surfing? My friend said shes couch surfing this summer... I dont wanna sound dumb.. so wha does that mean?
What is couch surfing on Gumtree.co.uk? I'm quite poor and looking for some cheap accomadation for when I go to London and found something called couch surfing for £10 a week. Does this mean you are actually paying someone to sleep on the couch? Has anyone hear done this? Check this link for example == http://www.gumtree.com/london/48/40374548.html
Is Couch Surfing safe? I would like to hear your views on couch surfing and whether you truly believe it is safe or not because I'm too young to die.
couch surfing in Bristol? I am going to Bristol on Friday and I will stay one night, does any one can suggest me a website where I can find couch surfing offers?
What is couch surfing site? My cousin told me someone IMed him and he didn't know who it was so he googled it and it turned out to be my bf (lives in California now). I looked at couch surfing.com and I looked under "Gender preferred" and it said "Preferred Gender: Any My couch is currently non-existent! But when it does exist, it will be GRAND! It will be gigantic and soft. People will cry when they leave it and melt when they first touch it. I am in between places at the moment. I gravitate twards my mothers apartment in Canoga Park. I can hang out anytime untill i get so lucky as to have something to do!i have no schedule because i blindly ( maybe stupidly) left Ohio's comfort in the spirit of adventure." I don't know what that means....is he tryin to say he is single???? What does "Couch available" mean?
Couch surfing/squatting/living cheaply? Let's say I have a car, limited money, no set job, and all life's normal necessities. I want to travel the world and go from place to place. There's a thing called couch surfing, where you can go stay at a strangers house for a period of time in another place. So if I travel from place to place continously, what are ways of making money? I only need the right amount of money to survive. Food, water, etc. What kinds of odd jobs/other things could I do to support myself with this kind of lifestyle? Any ideas/tips/advice? Any other kind of input is good too
I am indigent and couch surfing out of necessity, how can I be less of a burden? I am indigent and couch surfing out of necessity, how can I be less of a burden? Before you say it, I spend every day trying to get a job. It has been three weeks here living at my sister and brother in law's house. They feel that I "don't respect" them and don't appreciate what they are doing for me. This is untrue. My brother in law has millions of rules, and I try my best to do everything he says, but there is always something that I am doing that bugs him: honestly I think its just because he doesn't like me being here, although he will never admit it. I would leave but I have nowhere to go, and I am too much of a coward to live in my car or kill myself, although I think about doing both. I try and tell them how thankful I am, but he never believes me. I think of suicide on a daily basis. If I had any balls I would have done it already. And I have a bachelors degree, but I can't get a job yet. I try though, every day. Anyway what are some ways I can be happier, perhaps ease the burden of me being here (trust me, I keep to myself and I am very very clean, I even wash their dishes and take out the trash, my brother in law always has a reason to believe I am indignant)? f you dobiz. seriously.
Any info about couch surfing? so im wondering where i can get plenty of information about this and if it costs anything. also how do i know its safe? any comments about it or if you have done this or know someone who did it? anything is helpful. thanks. also is this possible anywhere im thinking of going to berlin germany if this is helpful.
Couch surfing opportunities? I'm lookin to get the ball rollin on my move to NY, but need a place to stay. I'll throw down to groceries, rent whatever so long as it's within my budget. I might have a job lined up by the time I get there and am hoping to move out asap. Please let me know if this is a possibility. I've sent out a ton of messages on couchsurfing.com, but New Yorkers are so busy they seldom log on it seems. Any suggestions help! Thank you!
Hi...is anybody in couch surfing? My girlfriend and I (we're Italian) are planning a 2-months trip to India next year (July-August 2010) and will follow this route: Delhi, Agra, Varanasi, Bodhgaya, Calcutta, Bubhaneswar, Puri, Vishakhapatanam, Chennai, Bangalore, Goa, Bumbay, Jaipur. Somebody can give us couch lodging for a couple of days in these cities? I'm a journalist, English teacher and write sci-fi, while my girlfriend is a registered professional nurse. Thanks!
Couch surfing websites? We already found couchsurfing.com, but its not the one we're looking for. I found a really good one last year but know I've forgotton the name- do you know any?
Do you recommend couch-surfing? I like the idea of meeting people from the area throughout europe, but I am not so sure. Is it safe? what are some things I should know?
Have you ever thought of couch surfing, before travelling.? For those who don't understand,,, You can go to a site with a list of names of people who are willing to let you sleep on the couch when you come through their town. No hotels or doorways for you, I am thinking of looking in to it. How would you feel about travelling that way, and saving a bunch of money staying out of the bad motel rooms? here is the link before you go all freaky on me. Sheesh!travel.canoe.ca/Travel/News/2007/11/29/4695267-cp.html
Couch Surfing Anybody? Does anybody have experience with it? I joined the website and I want to try it but I'm just a little unsure. Does anybody have any good/bad stories? Anybody wanna be a host to me? :-p
Couch Surfing, is it safe? I've been doing a lil research on traveling and stumbled on couchsurfing.com and I must say Im amazed on how easily people are willing to trust others to come into their house and how others are willing to stay at a strangers house. I personally love the concept but I do think its a little scary. I'm almost willing to set up a profile and see what can happen, but I thought I'd ask other people first. If you've had an experience, please do tell!!! Thanks in advance If you have an opinion can you please tell me what you base it on. Thanks
Have you tried couch-surfing? As I understand it [I haven't tried it, alas] it's a way of traveling on a budget - you join up and reciprocally provide basic accommodation to travellers who are part of the network, and enjoy the hospitality of others when you're the one travelling. There are ground rules for appropriate behaviour, of course. Here's the link: http://www.couchsurfing.com/ Yes I did, Jenny! and since then I've spent several very interesting and enjoyable hours on the site, which could be even more addictive than YA! There's actually heaps more to it than just using someone's couch as you pass through a place: the profiles are amazingly detailed and the ones I've looked at were really likeable, mature, and worth knowing, as far as I could tell.... They often have a separate nicely furnished room or even a granny flat, so it's not roughing it by any means....! PLEASE star me so others will not miss out on this great opportunity!!
Places to couch surf in Santa Barbara? Does anyone know of a safe place to couch surf for a couple of weeks in Santa Barbara? I am waiting to move into a place Dec. 1st and need a place to crash until then.
I really want to go on an inexpensive trip in Europe... where can I stay? Couch surf? Hey I'm hoping to go on a trip between April and September this year somewhere in Europe, I really don't mind where as long as it doesn't cost me much! I've heard about couch surfing but I don't know anyone who has done it. Have you done it? Is it safe? How does it work!? I'm a poor art student :p so it seems like a good way for me to get about, see a lot of places and spent very little!
What is the best way to travel around the world? I'm planning a trip around the world in a couple years. I'd like to do it as inexpensively as possible. I'm considering teaching English, couch surfing and countries that have mass transit to keep my traveling cost as low as possible. Some places I plan to visit are South America, Egypt, Baja Mexico, Australia, Japan, The Philippines and India. I'd like any additional ideas when considering a trip such as this.
How to find a free host family in Spain for a non-student? I have thought about Spain for a long time and want to get serious about getting there. I know all about couch surfing and travel companion matches but all I'm looking to do is live for a little while (eg a few months) with a family, help them out on their farm or in their house hold in exchange for a room and meals. Help? Oh, and what papers I would need to apply for to enter and live in Spain, though not permanently.
How do nomads finance their travels? I've been reading some articles about modern nomads who travel the world year round, and I can't understand how they do that. I get that there are ways that could cheapen a stay somewhere- such as couch surfing, but how do nomads pay for food and essentials? I read somewhere that there are some that finance their travels with writing, but what kind of writing? Once, I met a nomadic couple that sold jewelry to finance their travels. Just curious. Thanks!
Any couch surfers? Ok, I want some long detailed stories from people who did couch surfing for awhile: living there after parties, or living there cause they had no place to live. What's it like? Long stories please!
• What other options would this mother have? You are employed as an Outreach Youth Worker at the local Community Health Centre. A young man has been a regular client now for six months. He spends some time “couch surfing” among his friends and a lot of time sleeping rough on the streets and sometimes at his mother’s house. You have received a complaint from his mother that your client has been taking money from her purse and pawning some of her jewellery. She claims to have found some receipts from the Cash Converters in his room and is now asking for your help in moving him out of her house.
Where would you recommend stopping on my trip? My husband and I will be taking Greyhound up from Oregon, to Prince Rupert. From there, we will be traveling by ferry. We plan to camp, couch surf, and participate in other money saving activities, and just generally get a feel for different areas of BC. We also plan on taking the ferry up to Ketchikan. We plan on being gone for about 3 weeks. Do you have any advice for our travels such as where to spend time? Yes, I am using the actual couch surfing website.
Traveling alone in Japan for two weeks. How to plan this? I am going to travel by myself in Japan for two weeks from 7/12 to 7/25, but I haven't mapped out a travel plan. Any suggestions? I am on a really tight budget, so the cheaper the better! I am even thinking about "couch surfing"! By the way, I am an 18 year old female college student and I will arrive in Tokyo first. I speak Chinese and English and a little bit of Japanese.
couch surfing forum.? gday, i missed the chance to get in the forum before it was stopped. is there any one who can invite me along?
What do you think of CouchSurfing? Is it safe? Aloha, folks! My buddy and I are planning to take a trip to Berlin and since we have no friends there and we don't have that much money to splash on hotels, we're thinking of couch surfing! :) Is it safe?
How much money do I need to travel the U.S for 3 weeks? If I want to go East Coast/Midwest. How much money would be recommended I should carry? I'm considering couch surfing as in accommodation, but for everything else (travel state to state, food, accessories etc) how much USD I need to have?
My daughter and a friend, both 24 have asked me to fly to New York? This will be their first time and after a couple days they will fly on to Ireland then Europe 'couch -surfing' for a month. Flying into JKF, to make an interesting 2 days what do you suggest I do? I like just about anything! But I don't like tourist traps. I can see all that stuff on tv or in books.
Have you ever 'Couch Surfed' ? How safe could this be for 2- 24 year old girls? They are going by the rules, checking everyone out as much as they can, but anyone out there ever have a bad experience? The girls will do it for one month in the UK!
How can I find a deadbeat dad who is hiding from child support? My ex-husband, Joseph "Jay" Boehly, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, is a deadbeat, is working under the table, and "couch surfing" at friends houses, he is 41 years old, 5'2" tall blonde hair blue eyes. Owes his kid $10,000. Was married to Joanne Collins of Ventnor, NJ. I have a NJ court order, but they will not enforce it because they do not have a current address for him. I cannot afford to pay for a private investigator! Any suggestions???
cool places to stay in london for a young musician? i've had to book a hostel in the city for the first week for convenience, but i'm hoping to move to a couch surf or spare room in a house after that -- what's a fun area? i'm into the live music scene, indie, etc. there are loads of ads on the internet offering rooms, but i don't know anything about the different locations!
I'm backpacking Europe for a month: What should I bring? I'm backpacking around Europe for a month with my friend. We are mainly going to Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Slovenia and around Italy. We're staying in hostels (and might couch-surf if our funds are tight) What should I bring? I feel like I'm forgetting a lot! Thanks Oh, and we're going for all of July.
Toshiba laptop touchpad not working on battery power? I have a Toshiba A135-S4527 and have only had it for a month or so. I just noticed that my touchpad does not work when I unplug the power cable and all my attempts to find out why this occurs have failed. There is nothing in the power options or hardware options to explain why it does this. Once I plug it back in, it works most of the time (though I use a wireless mouse anyways). I would like this option back so I can take advantage of sitting on the couch surfing the net! Lol. Thanks for any help!
was my husband trying to reach out to me or something? Alright I know that this might sound crazy but I'm going to say it anyways. My husband is in the U.S. Army, currently deployed to Afghanistan. Well, he's been gone for a year and he's deployment got extended. He hasn't called me in 6 days which is making me worried. Last night I was on the couch surfing the web and I smelled oil and grease but there's none of that in this house. My husband is a mechanic and I was just wondering if he was trying to reach out to me or something. The smell was right next to me just for a couple of minutes. It was no where else in the house and it's gone now. Is it he's way to reach out for me? Well, it happened one other time and he said that he loved me. And then he called 2 days later
I am getting a laptop and I am wanting to get on the internet when I am traveling? Is there anyway I can get wireless internet in my vehicle,(obviously to search when Im not driving. haha) Im getting my lap top next month and I am going to want to get on the net. What is this about you can go set in front of a hotel and pick up a signal. Could I possibly connect it to my phone? How much is it? what kind of extra equipment do I need. I know this is a lot of questions, but this is the first lap top and I really want to get on the internet. I have a desktop in my bedroom connected to highspeed, what would I need at my apartment to set on my couch and surf? thanks
Homelessness alternatives anyone? Been homeless... well semi-homeless (couch-surfing) for some time now. Few friends and no family for help. Hard to keep a job in this situation. Motels are expensive. Social services is a joke. I'm a 25 year old male in Riverside county, Ca. Very few shelters out here, all of which play favorites. I guess I have to wait till I can barely walk and my teeth fall out to establish myself as a legitimate vagrant..lol. Anyways I was hoping to find some type of volunteer type organization that offered room and board. Haven't had any luck so far. Even thought about comiting some sort of petty crime just to get locked up for awhile. Any leads would be helpfull.
How do I train my 3 yr old mastiff? We just adopted a 10 month old male and 3 yr old female neo mastiff, both were raised outside. We want them to be indoor dogs. How do I train them house manners? As in counter surfing, potty, no jumping on the couch, things like that. I could use helpful methods on obedience training as well. Any help would be appreciated.
Should i follow my dream, go surf in Hawaii for the winter or start investing in real estate? I am 25 years old. One year on my resume, as an internal auditor, with heavy international travel, and a Masters in Accountancy. I hate accounting-I pursued my degree to get some money sense. I would like to run my own show one day. I took a job inland. When I started working, I planned on working for a year or two and then travelling. I have shelved the travel until I am financially independent, plus the fact that I have been to 6 countries in the last year for work. I still really want to go to Hawaii to surf. I know I am young enough, and in shape to go surf the big waves and fear that too much more time away from the water will take a serious toll on my surfing. I live in a growing metropolitan area, with a great potential to invest in real estate. I know the area will still be growing in a year.I am caught between surfing and starting to invest in real estate. I maxxed my Roth for the year. I would work almost any job to keep my current money. I have a free couch to stay on in HI.
What is the range of a wireless keyboard/mouse? I am thinking about setting up a small pc connected to my LCD TV, so I can surf the web from the couch, and would want a wireless keyboard/mouse, which I've never bought. Is it true they only have about a 3 foot range? I need MUCH more range. Any suggestions? Are bluetooth better as far as range?
best way to backpack through europe for 3 weeks...? i want to do this as cheaply as possible, hostels, couch surfing, etc. has anyone done this for really really cheap? i wont be shopping a lot or spending a bunch of money on silly things. basically i want to fly there, stay in hostels, take the trains to at least rome, madrid, paris, london... maybe scotland. i want to spend money on food and going to bars.
When are you the "bum or couch potato" around the house? LOL!? and what kinds of things are YOUR favorite things to do, as a big old Couch potato? lol! For me, I would love to spend hours surfing on the net,,,that is if my hubby wasn't always so upset and always telling me that I was living my "fantasy life" on it all of the time! so, I usually have to read or watch a movie with him instead! LOL! BUt, I love the net..and have a BAD addiction to it! I am trying to stop, but it sure isn't easy! :-(
What can my friend do for spring break? She has two weeks and no place to go. She has a little money, but not much, so going and staying in a hotel someplace wouldn't be reasonable. We're not allowed to stay on campus at our college and she has asked friends but can stay with nobody, this time. I have considered: -couch surfing (any other websites out there?) -hostels -perhaps monastery guesthouses??? Any ideas? What would you do in such a situation?
what to do while laying on my couch? i just had my wisdom teeth out and i'm soo bored.. i'm stuck on my couch and i cant move around much. ive watched millions of movies, tv shows, read a couple of books, and surfed the internet. what should i do?
What do I need to hook my laptop up to my television? I'm not even sure if it can be done...but what equiptment and or software do I need? Sometimes when hubby and I are surfing the net, we like to look at things together and it'd be fun if we wouldn't have to smush together on the couch to look at the laptop screen....any computer geeks welcome! LOL!
What do you usually do on sick days? I was home sick today with strep throat and was in total pain! But I was also incredibly bored! What would you do on a day like this? And I mean no sleep and sick as a dog. I had my lap top with me on the couch.. I thought surfing the net would help my boredom. What would you do?
my dog just pooped on me again! what should i do? This has happened twice before..the previous times though he did it on my foot. But just awhile ago, i was on the couch surfing with the clicker, when my 8 mth old male pit bull just climbed up beside me and unloaded right on my lap! i take him out every two hours and he does his job outside. it's as if he saved one turd for me. I know i didn't share my breakfast burrito with him but C'MON... any suggestions?
why did so many people answer questions about couchsurfing when they had no idea what it was? I wanted to find out what people think about couch surfing so i searched around here. I was amazed to find so many people who know nothing at all about couch surfing and they still attempted to answer the questions. I want to let you know that couch surfing is not about a free place to stay, and you do not have to offer your own couch in exchange for sleeping on someone elses. It is a cultural exchange experience NOT a free hotel! The traveler and the host alike will meet someone they ordinarily would not have met and share their lives for a day or two. It is an amazing rewarding experience. It is not for dating. The host does not ask for anything in return. The host/guest work out details of the visit beforehand. <pet allergies, accommodations, transportation, whether or not food is provided> If anyone took the time to look at the website www.couchsurfing.org they would know what it is. My question is, why do people answer questions when they have no knowledge of the subject? What do you get for all your points? What do you have against couchsurfing? If you answer, you can get two more points.
What do you guys think of this? The idea of couch surfing is growing more and more popular. There are millions of people out there ready to meet travelers by offering them a couch, spare room, mattress, or tent space for up to a week (though usually not more than three nights in one place) for FREE. You may even meet hosts which throw in a couple of free home-cooked meals and a tour around the city, though anything above a place to crash for free is just a bonus. Not only does this way save money, but it helps to give you a genuine local experience when in a foreign country. Here are just two of the many websites which offer a couch surfing database. Use at your own risk: couchsurfing.com globalfreeloaders.com (you need to sign up to look at accomidations for this last one, but they have a huge selection and even offer emergency couch hosts for when your origanal plan doesn't work out) Just be sure your host knows you're coming and follow their house rules. Thoughts?
What is that coach? I find that means instructor, but what is the meaning in next link?! http://www.surfinfor.com/COACHSHOES.HTM?gclid=CISl4sbD_I4CFShWEgodwWSl3Q I also found couch surfing, what is that? If you know Macedonian, please explain me on Macedonian
Shelters/homes for pregnant women? I am 20 years old, 13 weeks pregnant, and homeless. In the one time in life a girl really needs her family, I have no one to turn to. I was once a student at USF but I got screwed over by an ex-roommate and got evicted and ended up having to stay with a new boyfriend, which turned into a horrible situation, but not before getting pregnant. I have been couch surfing with various friends for a month now and I just need some stability so I can get a job, but I can't do that right now since I do not know what city I will be in from day to day. If anyone knows of any places that offer help in the Tampa Bay area, please let me know. Thanks.
Backpacking in South America? Hi, I'm from Singapore. Can you share your backpacking in SA with me? Places to go, stay etc. I'm travelling on a tight budget but don't mind spending for some good memories to bring home. Do you recommend couch-surfing in countries like Brazil, Argentina etc? Also, I'm going there from mid May to early July. What is the weather like there?? I don't want to bring any heavy clothing. Please help! Thanks! And if you are from SA, I would love to chat with you on msn to find out more! =)
Computer to TV Help? I want to send the video signal from my computer to my television so I can sit on my couch, surf the web, and become fat. What is it that I need to buy?
How can more kids these days get out and exercise more rather than watch t.v.? More kids today are watching more and more television such as playing video games, or they are infront of the computer chatting, using instant messanger or surfing the web instead of getting out of the house and enjoying their time with their friends or getting exercise like what they should be. Can you give some advice on how we can get children and teens off the couch and get them out of the house and spend the time with their friends?
Which computer future shall I go with? Background: At the moment I have a main PC (huge tower, 1.7Ghz Athlon running Windows XP, decent GFX + 19" iiyama monitor) that I use for web stuff, chatting, editing photos and occasionally playing games that will run on it. I also have an Acer Ferrari laptop which has seen better days (keys have worn off etc) that I use for couch surfing or chatting. I do need to use both for web development work occassionally, but I try to work from home as little as possible. Future: I'm moving to a new flat, I don't really want a big PC cluttering up the place, I'm thinking about just sticking with a laptop and a small network attached storage device. Do I stick with my current laptop and just make the most, or should I maybe venture into a little Macbook having never owned a Apple before (and having an iPod that died three times!). Questions: 1. Desktop or laptop? 2. Apple or PC - benefits? Thoughts are appreciated :)
