Sports Illustrated picks for the World Series back in the Spring were?

I hold in my hands a 2007 Sports Illustrated Spring pick for this coming Fall World Series: they picked the Dodgers and Angels. Your thoughts?

Public Comments

  1. back then it seemed very possible. both LA teams looked like they could be W.S. contenders in the spring now the LAD has fallen off badly and LAA just has too much competition in the AL so i cant see either of those teams in the World Series now ps anyone can be a Monday morning Quarterback
  2. Well I don't think either of those teams will be in the World Series...my A.L. pick from day one has been the Red Sox and so far they are not disappointing so I am sticking with them...I had been picking the Mets from the N.L. and I haven't changed yet on that but I may...so for right now I don't see the SI prediction coming through.
  3. My thoughts are that Si is bias towards LA. I can see the Angels because they definitely had the talent all year and were predicted everywhere to win the AL West easily. But to pick the Dodgers? You gotta be kidding me with that joke. The Mets should've been the pre-season favorites wit their ridiculous lineup and a strong pen. Dodgers fell apart in the playoffs last year showing they didn't belong and they didnt make any moves other than Schmidt who wasn't healthy.
  4. They don't know what the lleh they are talking about like everybody else.
  5. It seemed plauible at the beginning of the season, the Dodgers had revamped their staff with fragile arms and has beens at the plate. The Angels still have a chance but the Dodgers are done. I think that neither will make the Series but the Angels will at least be int he playoffs.
  6. What sports Illustrated idition are u holding? The Hollywood extavaganza idition? come on, those picks are just plain silly. Anaheim has a legit chance. But thats certainly not my favorite pick. LA, has 0 chance. Not enough hitting. They probably wont even make the playoffs. Anahiem wont get past the first round if they play Detroit or anyone team in the central.
  7. Dodgers choked...Angels are the best hitting team in baseball, they might not hit as many Homeruns as the east coast Red Sox and Yankees but under skipper Mike Scosia they play old fashioned National League ball...the Tigers were sailing until they met the Angels and gave up 30 runs in 3 games...Angels will win it all...S.I. picked them as well in their mid-season issue.
  8. Not going to happen now. The dodgers are done and I don't think the Angels can take out Boston, New York, or Detroit if they are going good. Right now I like Boston out of the AL and I'm pulling for my PHillies to make a run from here on out.
  9. It sounded good at the time. I bought into the Dodger hype before the season started too and thought they would be able to stay healthy. Looking back I feel foolish for buying it, but in the NL West and with what that pitching staff was supposed to be I don't think it was so ridiculous. I think when I made my predictions though I threw in either the Cubs or Mets. I remember thinking the Cubs but figuring they would find a way to screw it up. As for the Angels. I think they certainly can make the World Series, I actually like their chances a lot. They've got a really great 1,2,3 in the rotation and a very good bullpen. If they come in hot I think they can certainly beat anybody. I think once the playoffs start the AL will be a coin flip. All the contending teams will be good enough to feasibly take it all. Stepping back though, I'm pretty certain it will be L.A. or Boston. All in all, obviously it didn't work out, but I don't think the prediction is so ridiculous. Especially since they probably didn't want to just take the chalk (the Mets). Makes for a better column if you roll the dice on a medium shot than the favorite.
  10. dude11 not enouph hitting you got to be kidding me. Yes i know the Angels have a lot of teams to beat but they just took this last series against the red sox and yes they lost the series to the blue jays, but we'll see what happens with the weeks ahead. there next 4 series are: Boston, NY, Toronto, and the M's. The Angels have great pitching and clutch hitting. I don't see why no one if giving them a world series shot. The Yankees are fighting for a wildcard spot while the Angels have been fighting to hold there first place lead that they've had for all but i think 11 days. (first 11 days of the season i believe) I'm obviuosly an Angels fan, so i see them taking it all the way.
  11. let me guess, their runner-up picks were, San Diego and San Francisco?? Come on now, there are teams outside of California you know?!
