Have the Olympic games been devalued with the inclusion of events such as beach volleyball?
why do need this sport as we already have hard court volleyball, is this not just a cheap gimmick?. How long before we see chess, poker, snooker or darts being proposed.? David B, it's not just beach volleyball they are going to far with the inclusion of some sports, i can see Dominoes coming, why not golf blow football tiddlywinks, croquet, etc etc

- That's absurd, beach volleyball and hard court volleyball are completely different. Beach volleyball has every right to be there. How about snowboarding during the winter Olympics...skiing is already there.
- And ping pong, badminton, and Uno.
- Although I am no great fan of the sport, I can see no difference between Beach Volleyball and many other "worthy" sports like regular Volleyball. They all require hand/eye co-ordination, agility and speed not to mention skill. Why is Beach Volley ball singled-out for condemnation by sports pundits? Discounting beach volleyball as a serious sport is I suspect a form of sexism because implies that attractive women can't be good at sport. Criticising a sport for the clothing the participants wear is absurd. There are many other sports which use a variety of different surfaces. Cycling (BMX, Off-Road, Road, Track) and tennis (Clay, Grass) spring to mind. Why shouldn't Beach and Court Volleyball co-exist as well.
- Especially when they have stripped out 3 track cycling disciplines that GB would have been favourites in. Just think that could have been ten golds from cycling so far instead of ONLY 7 GOLDS, 3 SILVERS, 2 BRONZES. I feel very sorry for Mark Cavendish He was the only member of the GREAT British cycling team not to get a medal. Come on the BMX and the Mountain Bike.
- It is the venue that sold out the quickest of all the events. It means it is popular.
- Yes true enough, next will be strip poker that will have a large crowd. I gave up trying to watch the Olympic games.
- Without a doubt. There are many others. All team events, particularly where there are already world venues for the sport, eg Tennis, Football. Most sports where the marking is subjective, eg diving. The Olympics has been taken over by the PC inclusive brigade. Don't get me started on the Paralympics. Whatever happened to the original ethos, strongest, fastest, highest, longest. IE. where there is a precise measure, which can compare performances over time.
- If you don't like it don't watch it. There are sports and there are exhibition sports which is what the tennis and soccer are given that some of the worlds best are involved. Me and you could go in for the synchronised dominoes
