How do you pick a good beach volleyball partner?

i play for a club 14-1s team but im supposed to be on a 13s team. so over the summer for beach volleyball i want both a partner my age and someone a year older. im an outside hitter (previousley a middle blocker) and pretty much everyone on my team is playing beach (except our libero) so should i pick someone on my team? how can i tell if they are a good beach partner? should i get a partner who is a setter, opposite, middle, etc. thanks!

  1. Well I'd say someone who can play multiple positons. I might play beach and I'm a middle blocker/rightside and I've played setter. And my partner is probably going to be my libero who is also an outside and can set. So I'd say to get someone who's a solid passer. From my experience Middles cant pass that well lol (I dont know if thats true for you but it's what i've noticed) So someone you like, can be around, and has many skills!
  2. yeah, try to get someone on your team. you wanna find someone that is good at everything. to play beach volleyball, you basically have to be good at everything. because you and your partner are having to take the places of four more people. but since you are a good hitter, it would probably be good to find a good setter. =]
  3. the most important skill set you want to find is someone that can pass. if your partner cannot pass, well, tough for you. because the other team will constantly serve or hit to your partner and you will never get a rally going. Also make sure that they can consistently serve the ball over. after that, you want to find someone that compliments the way you play. since you're an outside and you were a middle blocker. you want someone that can pass and set. a setter or another outside hitter would probably make the best partner for you. unless the libero you find is also a decent hitter, don't pick them as your partner. in beach, you need to be able to pass, set, and hit. libero's are usually just passers. outside hitters and setters are generally the best overall players. setters can obviously set, but they have to be good passers too because they need to have good ball control. outside hitters are good hitters and they have to pass. besides the libero, they should be the best passers. when the setter can't set the ball, it's usually the outside hitter who sets, so i would say either get an outside hitter or a setter. make sure they fulfill your requirements though. i would avoid middle blockers, they generally can't pass or set very well.
  4. You want someone who's flexible with their skills. Someone who can handle the sand well, all the while being able to play good. You need someone with variety of strengths - setter, blocker, bumper, saver, digger - in case you can't get to it before they do.
