What are my chances of getting hit in the face while playing beach volleyball?

I'm thinking of joining a beach volleyball team at work. Because most of the people that have already agreed to join the team are at the intermediate level, they'll be playing that. I don't have any experience, and glasses, and I'm afraid I might damage them by playing. Should I still join? Haha, I'm only really debating it, because I have no experience and it's nearly $100 to join.

  1. JOIN ... Are you going to stop living because you are afraid to break your glasses . Buy a sports strap so they can't fall off. Then have fun.
  2. 18%
  3. the chances are very slimm. withh practice, you will be fine dont worry. i felt the same way except i have no glasses, but i was always so afraid of getting hit in the face. but then i realized that everyone is a pretty good hitter so they will have accurate hits and if not, you have time to react. hope that helped. but you should deff tryout! (: GOODLUCK! please answer mine when u get the chance! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ao3GSvn0HlyHmOzB9Br5EFjsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090518184530AA3zR7n thanks (:
  4. just put your hands in front of your face and you wont get hit....your glasses will probably start to bug though bacause of the sweat and sand.
  5. If you are athletic then I say go for it. If you don't feel confident that you will be able to pick up the skills/ move quickly then you might want to start playing at a beginner level. Beach Volleyball is much more difficult than indoor/grass volleyball because the sand holds you back. You won't be able to move as fast or jump as high. You will get tired much quicker. If the people who are playing are way ahead of you, it might be difficult for them to include you if you are holding the team back - I know that might sound bad, but its difficult to play volleyball with someone who can't pass or jumps out of the way of the ball. If you are playing coed, there is a chance you will get hit in the face b/c guys can jump higher and hit the ball over the net better than the ladies. If its all women you probably don't have to worry about it too much, but just be quick to block the ball from your face.
  6. really, not much. as long as you have moderately fast reflexes and don't put your hands together before the ball is hit at you, you have an extremely slim chance of getting hit in the face. i highly suggest you join that team! because it will be an absolutely amazing experience, even if your teammates are more experienced than you are. No matter what they will help you along and encourage you:)
